Quick answer

A special purpose machine (SPM) is production equipment engineered for one specific part or task, rather than a general-purpose machine adapted with accessories. Spinks Impex builds SPMs and full automation lines - combining mechanical design, tooling, controls, and inspection into a single dedicated system - for assembly, laser marking, pad printing, welding and robotic material handling, manufactured in-house at its ISO-certified facility in Baddi, India.

What we build

Custom Industrial Automation Solutions and SPMs

Every automation system we build begins with your manufacturing challenge - not a standard template. We engineer bespoke automation around your components, production throughput, process requirements, and quality standards to deliver maximum efficiency and reliability.

01

Assembly automation

Multi-station lines for press-fit, screw-driving, adhesive dispensing and part-mating, sequenced to your target cycle time.

02

Inspection & testing

Vision, dimensional and functional test stations built to catch defects before a part leaves the line, not after.

03

Laser marking, welding & cutting

MARKOLASER modules for permanent marking, engraving, welding and precision cutting - as a standalone unit or in-line.

04

Pad & screen printing automation

EPIC pad printing and SUKURIN screen printing stations integrated with robotic loading for multi-surface decoration.

05

Robotic material handling

Pick-and-place, part transfer and loading/unloading cells that connect otherwise-separate process steps.

06

Traceability & IoT

Mtrack integration for serialized tracking, production data logging and Industry 4.0 / IIoT visibility on the line.

i

A note on confidentiality. A large share of the machines we build are covered under customer NDAs, so we can't publish photos of those products, factories, or finished lines here. Contact us directly and we're happy to talk through relevant examples in confidence.

How we build it

From part drawing to production line

Because tooling, marking and printing equipment are all built under one roof, a machine's mechanical design and its process modules are engineered together.

01

Part & process study

We review your component, tolerances and target cycle time to define the machine architecture.

02

Design & tooling

Mechanical layout, jigs, fixtures, cliché plates or dies are designed and cut on our own DMG and EDM machines.

03

Build & integration

Marking, printing, inspection and handling modules are assembled and controls are commissioned in-house.

04

Trial run & handover

The line runs your actual parts before dispatch, with documentation and operator training on delivery.

In-house precision infrastructure

Machines that build machines

Tooling accuracy sets the ceiling for what an automation line can do. This is the equipment we use to hold that tolerance.

FAQs

Q1: What is a special purpose machine (SPM)?
A special purpose machine is production equipment engineered for one specific task or product, rather than a general-purpose machine reconfigured with accessories. SPMs are built around a customer's exact part geometry, cycle time, and quality checkpoints, combining mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control-system design into one dedicated line.
Q2: What does Spinks Impex actually build?
Special purpose machines and automation lines for assembly, inspection, testing, robotic material handling, laser marking/welding/cutting, and pad printing — plus the tooling that feeds those lines: cliché plates, silicone pads, jigs, fixtures, dies and moulds, all made in-house.
Q3: How is custom automation different from a standard machine?
A standard machine is a catalog product adapted with accessories. Custom automation starts from your part and target cycle time — the mechanical layout, tooling, controls and inspection logic are designed specifically for that job, often integrating several processes into one line.
Q4: What quality certifications does Spinks Impex hold?
ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, certified by FQC. Printing and marking products also carry CE marking to European standards.
Q5: Where is the manufacturing facility located?
A 36,000 sq ft facility in Baddi, an industrial town in Himachal Pradesh, India, equipped with machine tools from DMG, Charmilles, Carl Zeiss, Okamoto and Lapmaster.
Q6: Can laser marking or pad printing be integrated into an existing line?
Yes — MARKOLASER and EPIC modules are built to run as standalone stations or inside a larger automation cell, with traceability tracking available through the Mtrack platform.
