There are different types of heat transferring processes. They are inkjet transfers, dye sublimation transfers, digital appliqué transfers, and vinyl transfers.
  1. Create Artwork or logo Design – using graphic design software like photoshop and CorelDRAW , mock up your design on a computer. Make sure that you take right size and right ink pantone number colour into consideration.
  2. Print Your Artwork – your brand logo or custom artwork or graphics is printed onto special heat transfer paper using any of these inks like : inkjet ink, pigment ink or sublimation ink depending on the product, substrate and application.
  3. Cut Out Your Artwork– a vinyl cutter or any appropriate cutter is used to cut out images.
  4. Warm Up the Heat Press – Once you open the press, now separate the heat platen from the heat pad and leave it open for some time while your heat platen is warming up. For most heat transfer applications, the temperature should be set between 150 degree centigrade to 190 degree centigrade
  5. Now you need to adjust the Pressure – Right pressure on the fabric is defined according to the thickness of the fabric; thicker the fabric is lesser will be the pressure required . For most projects, medium or high pressure is used.
  6. Set the right Timing – this is one of the important aspect of heat transfer because there are different times associated with different types of heat transfer. You can use the timing below as a guide:
    • Inkjet Transfer Paper: 15 – 20 seconds
    • Dye Sublimation Transfer: 24 – 29 seconds
    • Digital Appliqué Transfer: 18– 27 seconds
    • Vinyl Transfer: 40 – 60 seconds
  7. Set the Substrate & Transfer in Place – Now keep your product on the plate with right positioning and now place the transfer face up on the desired location of your product within the pressing area. Mainly for Digital Appliqué Transfer, Vinyl Transfer you will need to cover the transfer paper with a thin cloth to protect it.
  8. Press the Product – once your product is in place, close the press by pulling the handle down to clamp the press shut. By now your time, temperature and pressure should be set, so it’s as easy as pressing the start button.
  9. Remove the Film – after the timer get off now open the press and remove the film while the transfer paper is still hot and your design should be printed onto your product. Just like that, your heat pressed custom apparel is complete!
